INSIGHT: National Homeland Security Conference and AI Programs for States

Two worlds where CXC is engaged are coming together. CXC has increased our outreach to state and local agencies involved in critical infrastructure security. Two topics that keep coming up are 1) the gap in coordination and convening of these state-level programs across states and 2) the opportunity to utilize AI to support these programs and offices and advance their innovation and capabilities. CXC is looking into opportunities to be the convening organization to bring cross-state CI programs together to discuss ongoing challenges and threats, share best practices and lessons learned, coordinate program initiatives, host regional level workshops, and, as part of our AI and Quantum Awareness and Security Implications Working Group, support the understanding of AI programs that can advance state-level security for critical infrastructure.  

Executive Director, Kelly Murray, spoke at this year’s National Homeland Security Conference in Louisville, KY and discussed with numerous state and local agencies the security challenges at the state level. In addition, these worlds collided when she participated in sessions on the AI risk landscape and also ways to use AI to support state and local security and emergency management programs. A free 7-part toolkit was demo’d by a FEMA representative and collegiate professor which is available online. The toolkit offers multiple templates, scripts, and guides for using AI to generate realistic exercises. You can find and download the toolkit here.
