EVENT: 6/24 Maritime Transportation System ISAC’s Cybersecurity Summit

On June 24, CXC's CEO, Dave Wulf, was in Orlando to keynote the Maritime Transportation System ISAC's Cybersecurity Summit. Participating in a fireside chat with MTS-ISAC Executive Director Shawn Whiteside, Dave had a chance to discuss critical-infrastructure interdependencies bearing upon the maritime domain and talk about the importance of interagency and public-private coordination—and, of course, took the opportunity to spread the word about CXC. The summit presented a great opportunity for owners and operators of maritime and port-focused infrastructure to connect and share information about cybersecurity and resilience…not to mention innovative tools and technology. Dave reports that he came away with insights on cyber and physical security being deployed by industry leaders such as Carnival Cruise Lines and had a chance to meet up with a representative from the Cruise Line Industry Association (CLIA)... and also had discussions with a senior official from the Port of Halifax to compare notes on strategies being deployed in Canadian and U.S. ports to coordinate infrastructure planning and investment across industry sectors and with government. Dave also reports that it was great to see strong representation and engagement at the event from the U.S. Coast Guard—with a delegation from the USCG Maritime Cybersecurity Policy office led by our good friend, Nick Parham.

Dave also had the opportunity to connect in Orlando with a number of CXC sponsors, advisory board members, strategic partners, and others from CXC's extended community. These included MTS-ISAC Executive Director Shawn Whiteside; Ollie Gagnon from Idaho National Laboratory; AFPM Security Committee stalwart Jerry Jerdine of Ergon; and, as mentioned, Nick Parham, fresh off his star turn as a panelist at our CXC Cross-Sector Symposium. Ollie delivered a couple of outstanding presentations during the summit—including with respect to the "cyber-informed engineering" principles that organizations may wish to consider as they make investments in new digital technologies.
